Why have an EAP?

With the competition rising both nationally and globally, companies need to ensure that they are using their resources in the most efficient way possible. Nowadays the most important characterization for the success of a professional manager comes from being a stronger front in the competition and raising efficiency.

Employee Efficiency:

Personal issues and family stresses are seen as the most important causes of decreasing employee efficiency.

With living circumstances becoming harder each passing day, and stress caused by the competitive environment of the work place,  the balance between work life and private life is put under pressure.

Research shows that, almost half (%47) of the employed force experiences problems, which they are not equipped to solve. This causes a decrease of 20% to 45% in efficiency due to absences(absenteeism) and low efficiency presence(presenteism). (Europaeische Agentur für Sicherheit und Gesundheitsschutz, Arbeitsplatz, 2011) Another research shows that 35% of last minute absences are due to illness while 65% are due to personal or psychological issues. (CCH Unscheduled Absenteeism Survey, 2006)

Problems with their children prevents one third of employed force from using their work hours efficiently. It is known that lack of concentration due to problems, significantly increases sleeplessness and even accidents.

Besides the calculable costs, other costs such as the increase of the workload of employees and managers, who are compensating for lost work force and factors that are not calculable such as costs from customer dissatisfactions, can be observed.

Employee Loyalty

The shrinkage of qualified work force in developing economies increases the significance of the term “employee loyalty”. Research shows that %65 of resignations are due to psychological issues or family problems.

The Measurable Return of Your Investment

An investment in EAP to increase employee efficiency shows a return of 5 to 16 times the investment.

It is observed that employees who use EAP services show a 43% increase in efficiency. (National Business Group on Health, 2008)

In addition to an increase in efficiency, a 50% decrease in last minute absences, 70% decrease in work accidents and mistakes and a 35% decrease in resignations and job hunts is seen. (USFederal Occupational Health, 2007)

EAP is used as the most comprehensive and effective tool that increases employee efficiency and the firms’ competitive strength, and has a significant improvement on employee living standards in the entire world. In the US 90% of Fortune 500 companies use EAP, meanwhile EAP also is used very commonly in Europe, Australia and Asia and has a significant positive effect on their economy.
